Medical Lecturers

Neil NedleyNeil Nedley, M.D., is the President of Weimar Center of Health and Education. He is also a full-time practicing physician in Internal Medicine with emphasis in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Preventive Medicine, Mental Health, and the difficult-to-diagnose patient.

Dr. Nedley graduated from medical school in 1986 from Loma Linda University in California, ranking in the top 10 percent of his class. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Kettering Medical Center at Wright State University in Ohio in 1989, and in the same year he became certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, and Alpha-Omega-Alpha Honor Medical Society, as well as a number of other health and medical associations.

Dr. Nedley has lectured extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and Russia on nutrition, lifestyle, and physical and mental health. He has held numerous nutrition seminars, cooking schools (with his wife, Erica), and depression and stress seminars. He has been a guest on numerous national television programs and radio stations throughout the United States. He is the author of several widely acclaimed books and is also the speaker and author for Depression Recovery, a community based 8 part mental health education series on video or DVD using a practical workbook approach.

Dr. Nedley is married, has four boys, and enjoys reading, running, tennis, and classical music.

Clarence Ing

Dr. Clarence Ing is the Medical Director of Weimar Center of Health and Education’s NEWSTART Lifestyle Program. He is also President of the NEWSTART Medical Clinic. Dr. Ing is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Preventative Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Preventative Medicine.

Dr. Ing received his medical training at Loma Linda University Medical School, where he also received a Master’s degree in Public Health. He has worked and lectured internationally, teaching wellness principles across Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe. Dr. Ing has also lectured for Reversing Diabetes and Obesity Seminars since 1997.

Dr. Ing has worked to develop corporate wellness programs for many organizations including Singapore Airlines, Motorola, and Hewlett Packard. He has also consulted with government organizations on health and wellness. Dr. Ing and his wife May, NEWSTART Nutritionist, have five adult children. They enjoy an active lifestyle including photography, diving, running, and skiing.

 

 

David DeRoseDr. David DeRose is a board-certified specialist in both Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine.  He also holds a Masters of Public Health degree with an emphasis in Health Promotion and Health Education.  Dr. DeRose is currently President of CompassHealth, Inc based in New Gloucester, Maine.
 
Dr. DeRose has pioneered innovative strategies for dealing with chronic diseases like diabetes.  He was one of the founding physicians and later Medical Director of the progressive Christian health center known as the Lifestyle Center of America.  His medical research emphasizing non-drug strategies for chronic diseases has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Annals of Epidemiology, and Preventive Medicine.

Although Dr. DeRose is comfortable speaking to professional groups, he has a reputation for clearly communicating his lessons to diverse audiences.  He is a popular speaker for churches and Christian conferences. Dr. DeRose’s eclectic background helps him empathize with people of various backgrounds and ethnic groups.  On behalf of CompassHealth he speaks internationally on physical health and spiritual themes.

Dr. DeRose is married to Sonja Brandt DeRose, M.D.  They have three children, Angela (16 years old), Victor (14), and Michael (11).

Helmuth FritzHelmuth Fritz, MD, has been engaged in vascular ultrasound research and its practical preventive clinical applications through Loma Linda University School of Medicine since 2003. He is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a certified vascular ultrasound technologist.  He has over 20 years experience practicing general internal medicine in Washington State.  

Prior to his LLU appointment, he served as a staff physician and researcher at the NEWSTART Medical Clinic at Weimar Institute, a health and education organization that focuses on lifestyle to treat and prevent many common degenerative diseases.  Dr. Fritz is particularly interested in utilizing ultrasound research to validate the effectiveness of a lifestyle-focused approach to health care and periodically returns to Weimar as a substitute staff physician where he continues active patient care and interaction.  Special topics of interest are type 2 diabetes and subclinical atherosclerosis (the detection of risk for development of atherosclerosis complications at the earliest stages to permit maximal prevention opportunities). 

He is Conceptual Developer of an automated software program, SonoCalc, for performing measurements of vascular ultrasound images.  It was the second such program to receive FDA clearance for clinical application and is being used as a standard against which other such programs are being compared.  He remains actively involved as a consultant for improving clinical applications of ultrasound in a primary care preventive setting.

Lorayne BartonDr Lorayne Barton is a practicing physician at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center and an adjunct professor in the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University.  She received her undergraduate training at La Sierra University, her medical training at the University of California in Irvine, CA, and her residency and fellowship at the Los Angeles County Hospital in Pediatrics/Neonatology.  She received her Master’s Degree in Public Health in the fields of Health Administration, Health Promotion, and Maternal-Child health from Loma Linda University. Dr. Barton also completed a Preventive Medicine Residency at Loma Linda University.

Dr. Barton has had a deep interest in the prevention and reversing of chronic health problems. She believes that everyone should understand the basic principles of healthy living and study it for themselves.  She has given talks for numerous organization and church groups on the subject of healthful living, and has taught in the Reversing Diabetes Seminars for Weimar Institute’s 3 day programs.  She is a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

Dr. Barton and her husband, a retired electronics engineer, are the parents of four grown sons and 5 grandchildren including 2 year old twin granddaughters and a 2 yr old grandson.  They enjoy outdoor activities including walking & hiking, photography, bird-watching and biking

Marcel Wiggers

Marcel Wiggers, M.D., is a board certified Internal Medicine Physician. He graduated from Loma Linda University Medical School in 1996 and completed his internship and residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He is currently a partner at a clinic in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Dr. Wiggers was a staff physician at Weimar Institute's NEWSTART program from 2000 - 2004. He is a frequent presenter in lifestyle medicine and at Coronary Health Improvement Project programs. He is currently a lecturer for Reversing Diabetes and Obesity Seminars.
 

Michael Orlich

Michael J. Orlich, M.D. is a board-certified family practioner.  He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and of the Tacoma Family Medicine residency, affiliated with the University of Washington. 

He has a longstanding interest in preventive medicine, nutrition and lifestyle education.  Dr. Orlich worked for a number of years as a physician with the NEWSTART® Lifestyle Program at the Weimar Center of Health & Education.  This center specializes in helping people change their lifestyle to reverse chronic disease and optimize health and promotes a vegetarian diet as the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle.  He is currently pursuing additional training in preventive medicine and public health at Loma Linda University. Dr. Orlich also has a special interest in international medicine which has taken him to South America and Africa.

Milton TeskeDr. Milton Teske, M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He works as an emergency physician and serves as the director of the Emergency Department at Hanford Community Medical Center in Hanford, CA. Dr. Teske is a graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He did his specialty training in Emergency Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Teske has worked as a participating physician in the NEWSTART Lifestyle Program at Weimar Center of Health and Education in California. Weimar Institute is a Christian health conditioning center where they treat patients who are afflicted with lifestyle related diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, allergies, obesity and arthritis. Dr. Teske has also served as Chairman of the Health Department at Weimar College.
 
Dr Teske is a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. For many years he has been a featured speaker at Weimar Center’s Reversing Diabetes seminars which have been held at major conference centers across the US. These seminars have been instrumental in helping hundreds to reverse their diabetes with exercise and diet.
 
Dr. Teske has traveled to dozens of cities across the former Soviet Union lecturing on the benefits of a simple healthy lifestyle. In addition to being a popular seminar speaker Dr. Teske has been a regular radio commentator on healthy lifestyle choices on short-wave broadcasts to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Henry C. Martin is a speaker and coordinator for the Reversing Diabetes Program. Additionally, he currently assists with promotion of the broadcasting ministry KBLN, Better Life TV, an affilliate of 3ABN, serving Southern Oregon and Northern California. He also volunteers with Christian humanitarian organizations.

He recently retired after 14 years as assistant to the president at Weimar Center of Health and Education, home of the NEWSTART® Lifestyle Program. While at Weimar Center, Henry and his wife, Robin, developed and coordinated the Reversing Diabetes and Obesity seminars for over 11 years.  During that time they presented more than 100 three-day seminars at conference centers in North America and the Caribbean, helping guests with Type 2 diabetes restore normal blood sugar. The program has served more than 6,000 people.

Martin studied journalism at the University of Oregon and graduated in commerce at the University of Maryland. He then became an automobile dealer representing Mercedes Benz, Volvo, and Nissan.

Henry and Robin Martin have two adult children, and several grandchildren. They reside in Grants Pass, Oregon.
